



THURMASTON PARISH COUNCIL RULES OF THE CEMETERY
PLANTING
No person shall plant any shrub, tree or flowers on any part of the Cemetery.
If cut flowers are desired on the Scattering Section they must only be in the wall vases.
TURFING/SEEDING
All new graves will be levelled seeded/turfed by Council Staff, as soon as the surface has settled and weather conditions permit. This may, in some cases, take several months.
MEMORIALS
On the Lawn Cemetery no kerbs are allowed and the only Memorial shall be a Lawn Type Headstone maximum 2’6″ high, the base should be a maximum height of 4″ and maximum base width should be no more than 3′. Headstone to be placed on the concrete strip where provided, Incorporating a Vase Base or Portable Vase of not more than 12″ cubed, but Not Both. If a Portable Vase is first placed on the Grave after an interment it shall be removed if there is an application for a Headstone, which must then incorporate the vase base.
In the Garden of Remembrance Memorials are restricted to 9″x 9″ x 9″. No garden ornaments, ornaments (except those incorporated in the headstone), glass jars or containers shall be allowed on graves under any circumstances.
All applications for Memorials of any type, or alterations to existing Memorials and/or removals, or any additional inscriptions shall be referred to the Council and permission asked for either by the applicant, or by a Monumental Mason through whom the work is ordered.
WOODEN CROSSES
The only wooden crosses permitted are Funeral Directors marker crosses which will be removed after six months or at the point of installation of a headstone whichever is the sooner.
WREATHS
Funeral Wreaths will be removed 14 days after the date of placing on the grave.
Christmas Wreaths will be removed mid January.
RETURN OF RESERVED PLOTS
Each request for buy-back is at the discretion of the Council and will be considered individually at a meeting of the Council. The refund will be the original cost of the plot minus a £20 admin charge.
ANYTHING PLACED ON A GRAVE WHICH IS NOT DESCRIBED IN THESE RULES AND ANYTHING WHICH HAS BECOME DILAPIDATED BY NEGLECT MAY BE REMOVED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE
