BRANCHING OUT - A COMMUNITY PROJECT AIMED AT ENGAGING PEOPLE IN THE CHARNWOOD DISTRICT WITH THEIR WIDER LANDSCAPE

Project Funding

This project is being funded through the Charnwood County Council's Grant Scheme, therefore activities are free to attend for interested individuals. The costings also include the transportation of up to 5 people per session from Syston, Thurmaston and Mountsorrel (exact pick up locations tbc). Sessions will run for 45 weeks usually 10.00 - 12.00 and can be picked up on an occasional or regular basis. Participants will be asked some general questions upon registering an interest in order to access their suitability and needs from the project.

Project Aims

Promote health and wellbeing by promoting physical activity and improved mental health.

Improve the quality of life for people living in priority neighbourhoods.

Enabling young people and older people to make a positive contribution to the communities in which they live.

Promote access of local people to green spaces and the countryside.

Add value to Charnwood's commitment to reduce the impact of climate change.

Activities

The list of activities below are an example of the sessions that will be running during this project. These activities aim to address the issues identified within the various priority Neighbourhood strategies and to deliver a range of activities to deliver social benefits (as identified through Charnwood together and other strategic goals set by Charnwood Borough Council)

Sessions will include:-

Biodiversity identification and monitoring

Practical Conservation Work

Activities targeted at improving mental health and well being

Foraging and identification of plants that have health benefits

Green therapy to improve outcomes for vulnerable adults and young people

Training and activities specifically related to promoting knowledge and skills relating to understanding and monitoring climate change
